A Story of Faith, Resilience, and the Beauty of Connection
Life has a way of leading us through unexpected paths. Mine began in Puerto Barrios, Guatemala, where I grew up surrounded by lush jade-green landscapes, the deep blues of the sky reflecting in the waters, and the vibrant colors of nature’s finest work. But when I moved to the U.S., I faced a cultural shock that reshaped my journey in ways I never expected.
I had to figure out how to provide for my son while navigating a new world, far from the familiar sights, sounds, and family I had always known. There were highs and lows, moments of uncertainty, and struggles that tested my strength. But through it all, God was always there, guiding me through every challenge.
Alongside my creative journey, I have continued building my career in administration, a role that has taught me discipline, attention to detail, and resilience. But something was missing, an outlet for the creativity that had once filled my heart as a child. Then, in 2019, something beautiful happened. I went back home to Guatemala. It was my first time returning since I had left. I found myself standing once again in the place that had shaped me.
That trip reawakened something deep inside me. As I gazed at the lush greens of the jungle, the sapphire blues of the sky and sea, and the fiery hues of tropical flowers, I realized how much I had missed the colors of my homeland. I wanted to capture those feelings, the warmth, the nostalgia, the beauty of creation, and share them with others.
Watercolor as a Reflection of Life and Faith
When I rediscovered my love for watercolor in 2019-2020, it became more than just an artistic pursuit, it became a way to honor my story, my faith, and the resilience that carried me through the toughest times. Every brushstroke carries a piece of my journey, from the struggles of being a single mom to the joy of rediscovering home.
That’s how JDF Watercolor was born. My stationery isn’t just paper; it’s a keepsake, a moment of beauty meant to be shared. Whether it’s a delicate floral note card, a design inspired by Guatemala’s eternal spring, or gold foil details that add a touch of elegance, each piece is crafted with love, faith, and gratitude.
Bringing Beauty to Everyday Moments
Handwritten notes are a lost art, but I believe in their power to connect, encourage, and uplift. Through JDF Watercolor, I hope to inspire others to slow down, to cherish life’s little moments, and to share their words in a meaningful way.
This is more than just a business, it’s a reflection of God’s grace, of the beauty He has placed in the world, and of the resilience it takes to bloom through every season of life. Thank you for being part of this journey with me. I can’t wait to see how my art becomes part of your story, too.
With love and watercolor,
Jessica
